Two sought after man shot in Dover restaurant

DOVER — Two unknown suspects are being sought after a man was shot at a restaurant in the Hamlet Shopping Center on Sunday.

Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said Monday that authorities do not believe the wounded Dover man was the target of the gunfire, which occurred around 4:41 p.m. at Roma Pizza at 1057 Walker Road.

“We’re still looking into the motive or possible target,” Cpl. Schmid said.

When the shot was fired, an unknown number of people inside the restaurant ran outside, where another suspect then fired five rounds from a 9 mm handgun, Cpl. Schmid said.

The victim was located at a neighboring business, shot once in the upper torso.

Cpl. Schmid said he was transported to an area hospital in stable condition and that a .22-caliber shell was found inside Roma Pizza.

No other injuries were reported.

It was unknown how the suspects fled and in what direction, police said. They provided no other suspect information.

In addition, Cpl. Schmid said, “At this time, we don’t currently have an (estimated) amount of property damage, as they are still assessing the incident to see what, if anything, was struck.”

Police ask anyone with information to call 302-736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
