White: Citizen worries about Dover’s rising fees, rates

Posted

After reading an article published on 6/16/25, in the Daily State News “Dover City Council considers higher electric, water rates” I am angered at our Mayor and those City Council Members who are in favor of these increases. How much more in fees are you going to inflict upon the people in this city. People are struggling enough, especially seniors citizens and single parent households just to name a few. Now is not the time to raise any taxes or fees, especially on our most vulnerable population like our older adults who have to choose between their medications and oxygen tanks or higher utility bills. We were hit with increases last year and the year before that. When is enough an enough? The Mayor and Council need to tell city staff to go back to the drawing board and trim the fat without raising any cost and if it is cutting jobs or their salaries then so be it.
I don’t think these local elected leaders understand or get it, the people here in Dover are hurting. The increases are affecting their daily lives and they feel the impact of rising costs. The Mayor and City Council should not be there to rubber stamp, they were elected to do a job. There’s no way people voted for this!
