Speak Up: Where do you walk your dog?

A committee has been established to explore the possibility of a dog park in Georgetown. Mayor Bill West mentioned items for consideration, such as location, regulations, insurance and upkeep. Town Councilwoman Angela Townsend suggested “a park for the community,” that could include a playground, basketball courts and a walking trail. Where is your favorite place to take your dog for exercise and socialization?

• Sad but many times the dog park is nothing more than a place where handlers don't have a clue about dog behavior and dogs fight. Then you have the other issue of unvaccinated pets and now yours has something from there. Would rather go to a pet friendly business. This way dogs can get many experiences and fewer bad dog ones! — Howard Gaines III

Milford school board reduces taxes for seventh year in a row

Residents in the Milford School District will see their taxes drop after the Board of Education approved a tax rate reduction at a Monday meeting. The meeting also saw the swearing in of three new members to the school board.

All seven board members voted in favor of reducing the school tax rate by 0.6% for district residents in both Kent and Sussex counties. Newly elected vice president Matt Bucher complimented Dr. Sara Hale, chief operating officer of the district, for her work in making the tax drop possible. “I want to compliment your fiscal acumen in making this a reality. I appreciate it, and the district appreciates it, and the taxpayers appreciate it,” he said.
