Speak Up: What should schools do to improve safety for their students?

After a 14-year-old student was arrested for felony assault at Lake Forest High School on Dec. 19, 2023, administrators emphasized that “safety is (the) top concern 100% of the time.” While installing constables and other law enforcement officers has been a focus over the last few years at districts throughout the state, is that enough? What else can be done to curb bullying and other violent incidents in schools? What have your experiences been with your children?
