Speak Up: ‘Unforgettable’ experience for Delaware veterans

Posted

The tears welling up in Army veteran Greg Fleming’s eyes told the story of what Delaware’s inaugural Capital Region Honor Flight on Sept. 12 meant to him and 23 others, as they traveled to Washington, D.C., for a day fit for a king — in military fatigues. When the trip neared its end, and the red, white and blue Honor Flight bus returned to Bally’s Dover, something unexpected and extraordinary greeted the group.

  • What a meaningful event. So proud of retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Bill Welser for leading this initiative. Bill is a member of the Dover chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, in addition to his many other affiliations. Randy Morgan, another MOAA member, helped out, as did a score of others. — Gene Thornton
