Speak Up: Traffic light at U.S. 113-Del. 24 in Millsboro adjusted, Round 2

Posted

As traffic goes, Millsboro is one of the busiest — and often most congested — municipalities Downstate.

And the town’s north-south/east-west intersection at U.S. 113 and Del. 24 is a perfect example.

To ease backups, in late January, the Delaware Department of Transportation completed its reconfiguration and sequencing of the crossroad’s signals.

  • That 113 median is wide enough for a four-lane overpass. About half of the vehicles coming out of Millsboro are turning south on to 113, and the other half are headed west on 24. So the bypass north of Millsboro is practically useless. — Christopher Walter
  • For years, DelDOT was proposing a 113 bypass around Millsboro. Is that dead? DelDOT website still says 2023 construction starts. — Mike Powell
  • Hopefully, this helps. I live just past 113 west, and it has been a real problem. Millsboro and surrounding areas are growing housing developments by leaps and bounds, and the town knew what was happening but has not acted fast enough. Working with DelDOT has to be a headache. I believe they said the bypass will not be done for a few years, and by then, it will be outdated, and there will still be a problem. — Carole Fiorani
  • The whole traffic flow through Millsboro is challenging, not just that intersection. Although I am glad they are at least trying to fix this. The intersection is quite large, and it was always a challenge to make a left turn onto 113 within the time of the green light. — Lori Holtzinger
  • The roads aren’t set up to handle the population boom in the area. — Justen Taylor
  • Soon, Sussex County traffic will be worse than Montgomery County, Maryland. The infrastructure was never designed for the growth which is occurring now. — Mark Breckwoldt
  • If you have two tractor-trailers in front of you and three vehicles, you will never make it through that light! You would have to wait again and hope you get through the next time. I try to avoid that nightmare! — Debbie Curtis
  • Throw in a train going through town, like on Thursday, traffic at a crawl all the way from Sussex Lumber on the northbound 113. — Mary Hamlin
