Sussex County is taking a step in its ongoing effort for development and the environment to harmoniously coexist. County Council recently adopted an ordinance that overhauls safeguards for critical waterways and wetlands, as development springs up near them. The action, approved unanimously after a Planning & Zoning Commission recommendation, represents the most significant update to the county’s environmental-protection laws in more than 30 years.
- This should go into effect in 60 days! Instead, it takes place in six months, so this gives the developers plenty of time to get their projects in before this takes place. “The ordinance will take effect in six months. It will apply only to new residential projects proposed and built in unincorporated Sussex County.” — Cal William

Delaware representative promises to continue fight for marijuana legalization
After months of deliberation between legislators, a bill that would implement taxes and regulations on the sale of marijuana failed in the House of Representatives by one vote recently. Its sponsor, however, isn’t giving up. House Bill 372 was one of two bills that Rep. Ed Osienski, D-Newark, introduced after the March 10 defeat of his previous marijuana legislation, HB 305, which would have legalized and regulated marijuana under the Delaware Marijuana Control Act.
- The prohibition of cannabis seems to have not decreased the supply nor the demand for cannabis. Not one single iota, and it never will. Just a huge and complete waste of our tax dollars to continue criminalizing citizens for choosing a natural plant. If prohibitionists are going to take it upon themselves to worry about “saving us all” from ourselves, then they need to start with the drug that causes more death and destruction than every other drug in the world combined, which is alcohol! It’s time for us, the majority of the people, to take back control of our national cannabis policy by voting out of office any and all politicians who publicly and vocally admit to having an anti-cannabis, prohibitionist agenda! Time to vote ’em all out of office. Period. Plain and simple. — Brian Kelly
