Speak Up: Should we continue to assist Ukraine?

Posted

In his first wartime trip outside his country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington, D.C., on Dec. 21, 2022. He met with President Joe Biden and addressed Congress concerning the economic and military assistance that has been sustaining Ukraine’s defense since the Russian invasion began in February. “Your money is not charity,” Zelenskyy said. “It’s an investment in global security and democracy.” Should the U.S. and other countries continue to support Ukraine’s resistance to Russia’s aggression? Why?

  • Great question. — John Pellegrino
  • Absolutely. — Thomas J. Chilton
  • Weapons, maybe. Cash, no! — Bob Hice
  • No. — Peggy West
  • I feel bad for the Ukrainians, but we need to take care of our American citizens first. — Frank Perdue
  • I realize a lot of money is going to Ukraine, and I really don’t know what other countries are contributing, but how can you not support them when you see the pictures of children and families dead on a street, their homes purposefully bombed when the Russians know that people are in them? I hope the Russian people rise up and take out Putin. — Stan Sipple
  • No. Zelenskyy is a crook, just the same as the idiots in D.C. It’s pretty much a money-laundering operation to benefit the same D.C. idiots. — Warren Avis
  • Tens of billions in, and tens of billions to go. And guess who gets to pay for it all? The American taxpayer. We love a good proxy war, and there’s no limit to how much we’ll spend, while our own economy is falling. As long as Congress keeps approving debt ceiling hikes and the Fed keeps printing, who cares, right? Not like inflation is even real. — Jonathan Contant
  • No. How about helping people in the U.S.? Politicians love making money off of war. — Charles Xavier
  • If Putin takes the Ukraine, it’ll just be a steppingstone to take over other countries. Putin wants the world. Stopping this monster is mandatory. More needs to be made available by other countries, as well. Europe, beware: You are in Putin’s war plan. Every effort is needed in stopping this crisis now. It’s not just the Ukraine; it’s the rest of the free world. — Vincent J. Deskiewicz Sr.
