Speak Up: Shortage of housing plagues Delaware

Posted

Delaware is short more than 19,400 affordable residences for renters who earn 50% or less of the state’s area median income, or about $32,000 a year. That’s according to the 2023 Delaware Housing Needs Assessment, which underscores the need for inexpensive units statewide. The lack of housing is one of the top barriers contributing to poverty in the First State and beyond.

  • This is nothing new. Delaware never really had “affordable” housing, and the farther south you go, the worse it gets. Delaware is in a sad state right now and way worse than it was 20-plus years ago. — Mike Brzezicki
  • There is no shortage of housing. They’re all too damn expensive. — Karma Coming
  • Maybe, if the border was not wide open with people wanting housing and the economy was in great shape with low interest rates, we wouldn’t be writing articles about this. — Jon Walczak
  • For real. Thanks, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. — Joshua A. Bullock
