Speak Up: Revised Delaware police accountability bill receives backlash

Legislation recently introduced that would put law enforcement officers under public scrutiny has received strong criticism from legislators and organizations. Senate Substitute 1 for Senate Bill 149, sponsored by Sen. Elizabeth “Tizzy” Lockman, D-Wilmington, would publicize all serious and substantiated records of law enforcement misconduct. It would also allow the creation of community review boards at the state, county and municipal level to review such records.

  • If they want to change public opinion, maybe they could first stop these days where cops are out writing tickets for quota. Knowing some cops personally and them being told they have to make a certain quota for tickets means they aren’t serving the public interest. They are trying to make more revenue for a state, county or town. This goes for multiple states, not just Delaware. — Christian Orendorf

  • Politicians, AGs, judges and police haters in our society are those who could not nor would not do the job of a police officer. They are clueless, but they are also the same ones that will certainly call 911 when they need a police officer. Blue lives matter. — Becky West
