Speak Up: Response to QOTD: New Sussex Tech school

Officials at Sussex Tech, originally opened in 1961, have a verbal commitment for a certificate of necessity for construction of a new school, and the budget process begins soon. What would you like to see included in the new building?

  • Though I haven’t been keeping up to date on this topic, I think a competition-sized swimming pool with showers and lockers might be a beneficial addition for our area. In addition to teaching students from schools in the surrounding area to swim — an incredible means of lifelong exercise — local teams could practice and compete there. Training for lifeguard certification could also be done there, giving a valuable resource for staffing Delaware beaches and pools. Also, I would also include water bottle-refilling stations. — Ruth Ashby

Catalytic converter thefts on rise in Delaware

Delaware State Police reported 277 converter thefts for the year, as of Tuesday. There were 159 stolen in all of 2020. “A majority of incidents occurred during the overnight hours at closed businesses and churches, where unoccupied vehicles are parked in their lots,” DSP spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
