Speak Up: Response to QOTD: How should the state spend tourism funds?

Posted

Gov. John Carney and the Delaware Division of Small Business announced an investment of over $7 million as part of the Economic Development Administration’s American Rescue Plan Travel, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation program. Where would you like to see those funds spent to boost tourism in the state?

  • We are full-time residents of Ocean View, so our perspective covers the seacoast from Lewes to Fenwick Island. At the height of the season, parking tends to fill up quickly. I suggest establishing shuttles from inland to the beaches. (There are a few but very limited.) That may mean more parking lots inland. The shuttles should be free or heavily subsidized. They should accommodate beach wagons (for chairs, coolers, etc.). As bicyclers and walkers, we need more of the secondary roads to be improved with dedicated bike routes. Bike lanes exist here and there, but there are gaps, where the best bike spaces available are narrow breakdown shoulders. Improve and extend the Assawoman Canal path from end to end and complete the proposed path to the Coastal Highway. Thanks. — Paul Higgins
