A trial is set to begin for the WNBA Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner, who is accused of possession of vape cartridges containing cannabis oil and arrested in Russia in February, less than a week before Russia invaded Ukraine. The U.S. Department of State recently reclassified the case as “wrongfully detained,” and the U.S. special presidential envoy for hostage affairs has taken it over.
