Speak Up: Potential overturn of Roe v. Wade has Delaware officials concerned

Posted

After reports indicating the U.S. Supreme Court’s intention to overturn the landmark 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade, Delaware lawmakers and advocacy groups are concerned for the state of women’s reproductive health. According to a Politico report, a leaked draft opinion within Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization stated that both Roe v. Wade and the 1992 case Planned Parenthood v. Casey must be overturned. The leaked draft opinion stated there is no constitutional right to abortion and that states would be responsible for either regulating these procedures or enacting an outright ban. According to The Associated Press, the draft was signed by Justice Samuel Alito and stated that “it is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

  • Why? It will go back to the states, and Delaware will allow it. — Ryan Fenimore
  • Anything to distract from the massive failures of the Democrat policy failures in the White House and 20% inflation we are getting hammered by daily! — Marc Auger
  • They do this all the time as a distractive tactic. This is never going to be overturned because we’re not going to put medical advances back a hundred years. It’s just not going to happen. That’s like getting rid of chemotherapy treatments and going back to bloodletting from the 1700s. — Sarah Smith
  • They release Supreme Court drafts all the time? I think you’re going to be in for a bit of a surprise then in June. — Dale Bert
  • They do this every year, if you’re paying attention. We’re not going to go back to the 1960s, with backyard abortions and women dying from infection. If men care so much about having children, then spend your money to make your own self have children and leave us out of it. Also, my opinion is not up for debate. — Sarah Smith
  • The likelihood the Supreme Court is going to overturn Roe v. Wade is almost all but assured, especially with the draft memo indications, just not the precise words yet. All opinions are up for debate. — Dale Bert
