Speak Up: Parents speak out against masks at CR board meeting, continued

Posted

Just minutes into the Caesar Rodney School District board meeting Tuesday, yelling broke out after members sought to recess to deal with the audience of largely unmasked individuals. The board called a 20-minute recess to decide how to proceed in compliance with Gov. John Carney’s latest mandate that requires those kindergarten-age and older in K-12 schools and child care centers to wear masks regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. The requirement went into effect Monday.

  • Ninety-three percent of our most vulnerable population is now vaccinated. No. We refused at the board meeting, and we will continue to refuse. Thirty-two other states don’t have to wear one. We’re not anymore either. — Kim Petters
  • Lots of other states have legalized marijuana, too, but it’s not legal here. I don’t think you’re making the point you think you are. Public school has to do what is best for everyone and deal with the effects thereof, same as inclement weather. You must consider everything, not just what Karen wants. If you don’t like it, send them to private school or do it yourself at home. — Matt Hickman
  • It’s not safe. Those states now have higher COVID rates. — Donna Heimall
  • Please stop using the name “Karen” in a negative light. That is the name of many people in society. Thank you. — Elizabeth Herringer Larlham
  • “Tolerate it”? It’s called having common sense. I don’t know where you get your statistics or any of your information, but we won’t get rid of COVID unless everyone gets a vax and wears a mask as to not pass it on to others. Don’t let your political view get in the way of the safety of your and others’ children. If you can’t follow the rules, keep your kid home. It might save someone else’s life, as if you care. — Sonny Ray
  • So when do we stop wearing the mask? — Michael Forcade
  • Wait till they find out that their kids have to wear clothes, too. — Judy Lough McNamire
  • It’s funny, these same people argued for in-person five days a week and no remote for CR, got their way, now they want to argue about masks. It’s ridiculous. You want your kids in-person, wear a mask. Real simple. If not, we are going to be like all these other states and kids back remote. Me, I’m fine with remote. My kids did great, so keep fighting the good fight. I’m happy to have my kids home and safe. — Amy Marie Banks
