Speak Up: Parents speak out against mask mandate at Caesar Rodney school board meeting

Posted

Just minutes into the Caesar Rodney School District board meeting Tuesday, yelling broke out after members sought to recess to deal with the audience of largely unmasked individuals. The board called a 20-minute recess to decide how to proceed in compliance with Gov. John Carney’s latest mandate that requires those kindergarten-age and older in K-12 schools and child care centers to wear masks regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. The requirement went into effect Monday.

  • Besides my comment being quoted inaccurately, at least grammatically, I can say that this article is misleading in some aspects. From the perspective of someone who was there, what’s mentioned as yelling was someone trying to be heard without a microphone. I also want to point out that the statistics shared in this article are not relevant because they are based on adult statistics. He did not share the statistics parents shared, many of which were from NIH and CDC. Children are at an extremely low risk for illness due to COVID, and there’s only a 0.0005% chance of them dying due to COVID, and researchers at Johns Hopkins just found that those children all had illnesses like leukemia prior to contracting COVID. • There are 5,000+ kids in quarantine after four days of maskless school in just one Florida county — a state that now has the highest percentage of children being hospitalized with COVID. When your kids have to stay home to quarantine, you will all be crying about that. — Michele Lapinski
  • Great job, parents. Stand up for your kids — David Wendy Holloway
  • Parents should want to keep their children safe by wearing a mask. I do not see why this is such an issue for commonsense people. This is not a time to try and be a hardhead. Keep your children alive and follow the mandate. I’d feel bad if Johnnie didn’t come home one day. — Sonny Ray
  • It’s 0.01% fatality. Less than 2% or 3% hospitalizations. Kids are fine. Leave them alone. — James Dempsey
  • Apparently, you have not lost anyone? — Jody Sweeney
  • From COVID directly? No. But yes, I have from the restrictions and lockdowns preventing normal care. But just go ahead and assume what you want. — James Dempsey
  • Wear a mask. It’s not that hard. I’m sure you could YouTube how to put on a mask if you really can’t figure it out. — Bryan Bobel
  • “They” said that I didn’t need a mask if I got jabbed. So I got jabbed. — Bob Hice
