Indian River School District passes ‘no-confidence’ motion in opposition to school masks:
The resounding theme at a recent Indian River School District board of education meeting was that parents and children — not the state nor its Department of Education — should be the ones choosing if a mask will be worn to school.
At the meeting, most were vehemently opposed to Gov. John Carney’s recent mandate that all students in kindergarten through 12th grades at schools and child care centers wear masks, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.
• Glad the state mandate overrides! — Joan Glover-Wire
• Resist! — Mike Schwander
• Mask it or casket it. Thanks for letting this virus go longer than it would. How do you think I felt when I had to wear a gas mask? Too many Americans are crybabies. Thanks for hampering my life, probably for another year! Idiots. — Crystal Hamilton
• If the masks work for you, go for it! It shouldn’t matter if others are or are not wearing them. It’s America! Freedom to do what makes you happy! — Donna Marie
• It’s also America, where your choices have consequences because we don’t live in an anarchy! — Dale Bert
• But you not masking does affect others. For more than a year, we’ve known my mask protects you from my germs, your mask protects me from yours. It only works when both of us are masked. It’s baffling to me why people don’t understand that. — Sally Stewart
• ’Merica! Drive drunk if you want! Smoke in your local restaurant! You live as if in a vacuum, and your actions only affect you. — Wendy Mcallister Reaume
• I saw something earlier that said if you’re wearing a mask, why would you care if I’m not? Your mask works, right? Well, if you’re sober, why would you care if I was driving drunk? Your seat belt and air bags work, right? This makes perfect sense! — Lisa Price Adams
• Wow. Sad that you don’t care about the most vulnerable people. Glad you don’t care for anyone I know. I am sure you don’t want to put out where you work because they probably wouldn’t appreciate you are risking the people under their care. I don’t need exact facility. A state would be sufficient. — Karen Gasper
• They don’t allow smoking in public places for the same reason there are mask mandates. You are infringing on my health. Your health is your business but not when it is detrimental to mine. If the mask mandate falters because of the ignorance being spewed, we need to keep our children home. — Elvis Cadillac
• So tired of seeing people that don’t understand that the risk doesn’t end with just the child. — Eileen Patricia
• Nothing works. From your first day on this planet, you start dying. Mother Nature, bad luck and stupidity also have something to say about death. These people have never watched “The Lion King” and thought about it. It is just the continuation of me, me, me and the participation trophy mind-set. — Bob Beckman
• Indian River chose to do the right thing for our children and grandchildren. When parents’ rights are completely taken away, children’s rights taken away, someone has to step up and stand in the gap, and that’s what they all did. I hope this will encourage other district school boards to be courageous. Masks don’t work for all things, and they are unhealthy. — Dionne Breasure Baker
• Don’t mask. That way, when the schools close down again, everybody can stay home just like last year. It’s absolutely a brilliant strategy. — Mark Walter
