Posted
Even on Delaware Day, the First State still got no respect. Social media was abuzz Tuesday, as a photo of a new sign put up as part of the ongoing construction on Interstate 95 through Wilmington got the attention and ribbing of thousands. The sign for Exit 7 (Delaware Avenue) had one slight problem: It was spelled “Delware Ave.”
Lowest bidder strikes again! — Jason Ryles
Inept! Also, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) brined the roads, even though the snow was not forecasted to accumulate on the roads whatsoever. What a waste of money. — Danny Mitchell
Brining our roads is a precautionary measure when any frozen precipitation is in the forecast. Weather forecasts are never 100% and can change frequently. When the decision to brine was made, there was a likelihood of a coating to an inch of accumulation and freezing temperatures, and that would be enough to cause slippery conditions. While the forecast had changed, safety is our first priority, and we would rather put brine down than not, to help avoid issues resulting from roads not being treated at all and ice developing. — Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT)
No one caught it before it went up? No one said, hey, wait a minute? I want the details because that sign probably cost a lot when it is all said and done, structure, lights, electric, crane, labor … not to mention the inconvenience to drivers. — Matthew David Szymanski
I’m thinking that they had a deadline to get the sign up because I think the traffic pattern is changing again, and even though there is a mistake, they have to temporarily hang it to identify the exit. — Amy Parke
How much for this one? Would make a great sled! — Carl Shockley
It’s amazing how many people have such comments to make, like they never made a mistake. — Ellen Smith
Well, I can see the great education in Delaware’s public schools is working well for Dems. Maybe if they didn’t worry so much about teaching CRT and banning plastic bags, they could teach reading and math. — Gerald Vaughn
This is beyond sad. Apparently, no pride nor interest in the work ethic. Everyone involved should be ashamed and pay for the replacement. Pathetic. — Karen M. Babiarz
How does this even happen? There are some folks that still don’t know Delaware is a state. Now, they will never believe. — Shelly Jo Ulloa
So that’s where meme writers work! — Tim Trexler
And my feed just before this: Santa’s been reading your posts all year. Most of you are getting dictionaries. — Jakeson Parker
