Speak Up: Minner remembered for pursuit of Delaware indoor smoking ban

Posted

One of those legislative accomplishments that Gov. Ruth Ann Minner championed because she felt it benefited the greater good was signing into law the Clean Indoor Air Act, which banned smoking in workplaces and most indoor venues, including bars and restaurants. The act was the second of its kind in the country, following that of California. It went into effect Nov. 27, 2002.

  • Talked to a bartender who was a smoker, and he was so pleased with this when it happened. Told me his clothes and him smelled of nicotine so bad. Had shower every night, no matter how late. He was OK with it even though he was a smoker. — Mark Joseph
  • Doubling DMV fees. RIP. — Ray Zelano
