Speak Up: Levy Court approves budget despite plea to save eliminated position

Posted

Kent County Levy Court approved the fiscal year 2025 budget June 18 after several weeks of deliberation. The nearly $40 million general fund budget covers staff, operations for libraries and parks, aid to volunteer fire companies and more. In the nearly $8 million capital budget, the county is moving toward the construction of emergency medical services stations in Harrington and Frederica, plus the replacement of some vehicles. Part of the general fund budget is the elimination of a single position, the Geographic Information System administrator. The job is held by Hannah Morris, but prior to the vote, her father, local attorney Gregory Morris, appeared before commissioners to protest the county’s alleged mistreatment of his daughter.

  • Sounds like Levy Court needs new people! How can people be so heartless as to eliminate a position when the person is on maternity leave? Seems like these boards know how to waste our tax money! — Danree Fjelsted Heath
