Speak Up: Legislators file Delaware Relief Rebate bill

The 2022 Delaware Relief Rebate Program was announced recently and would provide each Delaware taxpayer with a one-time direct payment of $300. Residents who filed personal income tax returns for the 2020 tax year — plus adult residents who did not — are eligible, and the rebate would not be subject to state tax. Under House Bill 360, the one-time installment intends to offset recent economic hardships and relieve the financial burden many Delawareans are facing.

  • Yes, $300 should make up for the $5,000 we’re losing annually because of inflation. — Nancy Knight
  • Thank you for giving our own money back to us. You know, the surplus you discovered you no longer need because of the stimulus money you received from the federal government — that stimulus money which originally came out of our wallet, too. Just don’t expect to be congratulated for returning something to where it was taken from in the beginning. — Dennis Kirkwood
  • What is it now that the generations to come have to pay off? $33 trillion? We’re so fortunate. — Jamie Cubeta
  • Something just seems wrong about this. — Edward Wilhelm
  • Economic relief?! You mean a tease? Here’s some economic relief: Suspend the Delaware income tax. A single-status taxpayer making $30,000 per year would save $1,000 for the year (over three times the amount of this “relief”). A married couple making $100,000 combined would save $5,000 for the year. — Libertarian Party of New Castle County
