Speak Up: Kent planners hear new application for solar complex

For the second time this year, the Kent County Regional Planning Commission is weighing an application for Cedar Creek Solar — a large-scale solar complex that would be built east of Smyrna, if approved. The commission held a two-hour public hearing, collecting input from project representatives, as well as community members.

  • Kent County’s valuable farmland is a keystone for the entire state. It provides income for farmers, employment for farm workers, important food sources for wildlife. East of Route 1 should be absolute off-limits for predatory development. — Carole Banse-Doyon

Question of the Day response:

Are you an Eagle Scout? What was your service project?

  • I’m Carlton Passley of Troop 109 in Magnolia, and I just received my Eagle Scout rank at the end of October 2021. For my project, I built two multi-stream recycling stations for Wyoming United Methodist Church. Under the current single-stream recycling laws in Delaware, glass, paper, cans and plastic bottles are all transferred into a large recycling dumpster, but with these multi-stream stations, the church will be ready for whenever multi-stream recycling may be introduced in Delaware. — Renate Leuprecht Purdy
