As directed by a court order, the Indian River School District is mapping out its future with an emphasis on equity. The district hosted a series of focus groups July 26-28 to garner input from students, faculty, parents and community members about the results of its equity survey, which will help craft its five-year strategic plan.
“We are using our results to develop our five-year strategic plan and formulating our next steps with developing intervention ... programs and support for our students, family, staff as we move forward,” said Nika Reid, supervisor of support services for Indian River.

- There is no such thing. You get what you achieve, not what you think you deserve. — Doug Poore
- I think you’re confusing equity with entitlement. I believe this equity they’re talking about is “the quality of being fair and impartial.” Are you saying that, in order to be treated fairly and impartially, you have to earn that right, and if you are treated unjustly and with bias, you’re lazy? After all, our forefathers believed equality to be a self-evident truth. However, if you are speaking of entitlement, then I would have to agree with you. You get what you deserve through your own efforts, not because somebody owes you. — Gary Greer
