Speak Up: How to prevent Delaware schools from failing further
Posted
Kathy Doyle shared an Opinion outlining her longtime work as a teacher and what should be done to remedy education in Delaware.
I totally agree with you. Let teachers teach. Teachers know their students and what they need. Bring back basic phonics, like Orton-Gillingham, and students will learn to read! Bring back discipline, and students can feel safe to learn. After 25 years of teaching, I had 30 special ed students, a loaded gun in my classroom, someone set fire to the carpeting, someone jumped me. And, as to the state tests, they poured water over these. It was impossible to collect all the cellphones, and when they rang, the students would run out and never be seen the rest of the day. On paper, I was supposed to have an aide but never saw one. There was a lot of antisemitism in the building. I never looked back after I retired! — Joan Migdalof
