Speak Up: How should utility-scale energy systems be handled?

Kent County Levy Court has set a moratorium on utility-scale wind power generation sites through June 30. Although no wind applications have been received, a previous attempt to place a solar-generating project on central Delaware farmland ruffled the feathers of both farmers and residents. The panel plans to discuss large energy projects and will consider limiting them to designated business growth zones. Should wind and solar projects be restricted?

• Yes, they should be restricting putting these projects on precious existing farmland or in residential areas. Those that will profit the most from these projects will more than likely profit financially and will tend to be an out-of-state company, a foreign country or someone who might own a piece of Delaware property but chooses not to live in Delaware. — Sherri Szczechura

Delaware Coastal Airport new training hub for Ocean Aviation

Ocean Aviation, an award-winning full-service pilot- and flight-training academy, now has operations in Maryland and Delaware. Based in Ocean City, Maryland, since 2007, Ocean Aviation recently celebrated the opening of its campus at the Delaware Coastal Airport. When owner Mike Freed launched Ocean Aviation 16 years ago at the Ocean City Airport, there was one airplane, one instructor and no students. “It’s now turned into a major flight academy,” he said. “We’ve just been designated this year the No. 4 of over 110 Cessna pilot centers in the country. We’re getting quite a bit of accolades.”
