Duffy Barber’s plan to celebrate her 73rd birthday with a little gaming action at Harrington Casino & Raceway was foiled Dec. 28, 2022.The Rehoboth Beach woman, other Delawareans and out-of-staters arrived at the casino on the state fairgrounds to find a near-empty parking lot and the casino temporarily closed due to “technical difficulties,” according to a sign posted at the door and on its website.

Helene Keeley, director of the Delaware Lottery, said the facility notified her office that it would be closing early the previous day. “As their regulator, we were notified yesterday at about 12:30 p.m. that they were experiencing technical difficulties and that they would be closing at 1 o’clock,” she said.
