Speak Up: Gov. Carney announces legislation aiming to reduce gun violence in Delaware

Posted

Gov. John Carney partnered with House and Senate Democratic leadership to announce a gun-safety package recently, just weeks after the deadly mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York. The package will contain six pieces of legislation, including two existing bills, two newly introduced bills and two not yet been introduced.

  • Thank you. It’s about time something is done. — Merv Sparks
  • Stop the felony pleas, and you might reduce the crimes … might. — Howard Gaines III
  • Or prosecute the offenders. When you drop charges on 81% of the gun crimes, what’s the point in making new laws?! — Kellie O’Neill Michaud
  • Facts are that over three-quarters of mass shooters legally bought their firearms. — Gary Greer
  • Doesn’t our governor realize that guns are not the problem? Vehicles can be used to kill. So can knives. This country is barking up the wrong tree! — Karen Ward
  • Yes. But that’s not why they’re doing this. It is to get our law-abiding citizens’ guns away from us and leave us to the mercy of a criminal. — Laura Wing
  • Well, then, let’s ban vehicles and knives. — Charlie Harper
  • My thoughts exactly! I see you understand the stupidity! — Karen Ward
  • It’s never a good thing to let government remove or restrict constitutional rights. Once removed, they never give them back. — Jeff Grzeszczak
  • Holding manufacturers liable. How stupid, unless the firearm is faulty! How about holding liberal politicians liable for the gun crime in their cities? How about taking a firearms safety-and-understanding course and find out that the weapon doesn’t kill, it’s the person? Will they ban underwear next because the underwear bomber tried to take down a plane? How many gun felony pleas have been done in this state? Let’s see some data! — Howard Gaines III
  • Democrats, once again, punishing law-abiding citizens so that, eventually, no one can fight back against tyranny. — Michael Forcade
  • How about if our AG 1.) didn’t plead down so many gun charges? And 2.) actually reported state gun offenses to NCIS, so they are tagged on the federal background checks. — Grant Jones
  • Guess the Demos feel warm and fuzzy caring so greatly. How about those I read about in the local newspaper almost daily having firearms illegally? — Stephen Malkowski
  • I’d be willing to bet that, as usual and now more than ever, the sales of guns and ammo are skyrocketing. They were just now beginning to recover from the last surge. — Bob Hice
  • Why are Democrats writing gun-legislation bills when they do not enforce the ones they have? — Beth Gallagher
  • I read in today’s paper that our AG is complaining about politicians not moving on a handgun bill. OK, that is par for the course. However, in today’s paper, an article covered the arrest of an individual who, when arrested, had 9 mm and .380-caliber handguns in his possession. He was not supposed to be in possession of a gun of any kind. Where did he get his guns? What are you doing to stop people like him from having guns? I bet he didn’t buy them through a gun dealer. — Andy Andrew
