Speak Up: General Assembly looks to make forging vaccination cards a criminal offense

Posted

As a Delaware resident is being prosecuted federally for allegedly forging and selling fake COVID-19 vaccination cards, lawmakers are aiming to criminalize such action at the state level, as well. House Bill 302 would make the production and selling of fake vaccination cards a second-degree felony. The definition of such cards would be added to the forgery offense in the Delaware Code.

  • Absolutely. This is a criminal offense and should be prosecuted. It is a threat to public safety and health. — scotthered

Response to letter supporting lawsuit against Seaford

“Here, here to the Sussex County board of the League of Women Voters (‘Sussex LWV supports Seaford lawsuit,’ Jan. 24). They hit the nail on the head when they wrote, ‘It is disturbing that people who ordinarily oppose government intrusion into their lives would support an ordinance which does exactly that.’”

  • When science is available to guide the creation and enforcement of laws, perhaps we should avoid any laws that depend only upon religious teachings, remembering that laws are upheld by force of arms. No one should face armed police over an issue decided only by religious teachings without one bit of scientific evidence. — Paul D. Hayes

Response to letter on no-excuse absentee voting

“This effort to allow no-excuse absentee voting is not simply a Common Cause DE effort. We are helping to lead a coalition which includes a great diversity of 40-plus organizations, from unions to good-government groups and youth and fraternal organizations. This is a statewide effort of your friends and neighbors.”

  • Amending our state constitution is not easy, and removing absentee restrictions (a specific, limited list of allowed reasons for voting absentee) from our state constitution has been a struggle many years in the making. Former Rep. Earl Jaques plugged away at this for many years, and it is finally within our grasp. Our General Assembly should not let this chance pass us by! — Kim Wells
