Speak Up: Extreme heat wave provokes warning from Delaware’s power grid

The largest power grid in the U.S. warned last month that all available energy generation resources were in use amid a wave of extreme heat engulfing the eastern part of the country. A day earlier, PJM Interconnection, which serves 13 states including Delaware, issued a level one energy emergency alert, meaning all generating resources were in use or scheduled to come online. That alert was extended the following day, while demand continued. “PJM currently has enough generation to meet forecast demand, but operators continue to monitor the grid conditions for any changes,” spokesperson Jeffrey Shields told The Associated Press.
The report came amid hazardously high temperatures throughout Delaware in July.
