Speak Up: Dover Downs Casino is no more; site renamed Bally’s Dover Casino Resort

Posted

Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is getting a new name. Bally’s Corp. recently announced the official kickoff to its rebranding of Dover’s casino to Bally’s Dover Casino Resort. Earlier this year, then-Twin River sold the real estate associated with the Dover casino’s campus to Gaming & Leisure Properties Inc. for $144 million.

  • So with the sale, does that mean the previous owners of the casino are going to take the profit/revenue of the sale and give some of it back to the state, considering the amount of money the state has contributed (through taxpayer funding) to the casino? — Jeremiah Jones
  • Apparently, you aren’t aware that the state gets a good portion of the income from all the casinos in Delaware. — Ed Swetland
  • The state gets a good portion of all our money but doesn’t change the fact of them (the sellers) benefiting many times over from taxpayer funding. Now, with the sale, I’m wondering how much our prepaid tax revenue will go back to the state. It’s a fair question. — Jeremiah Jones
  • It was sold over three years ago. The new company is just rebranding the name. — Christian Orendorf
  • Open the buffet. — Chet Dane
  • I thought the same thing! Maybe they’ll open the buffet! — Lisa Hoeber
  • Hopefully, they just turn that into a huge resort. — Christopher Michael
  • I just got my mailer, and it says formerly Dover Downs! They’ve been transitioning for months. On the footrests of some of the machines, it’s been saying Bally’s! Hoping they start compensating, regardless of where you play! — Frances QueenBee Johnson
  • Hope they will make the food better. — Allen Cramer
  • I’d like to see the payout rate, as once, it used to be published. — Stephen Malkowski
  • Good! Hopefully, they remodel it. Have real restaurants worth eating at, dump or remodel Fire & Ice, more entertainment, celebrity appearances and a few more music-club venues, more upscale retail stores. I think MGM and Borgata has me spoiled. — Jeffrey Brummell
