More than 59,000 bags of trash were collected in 2022 as part of the state’s effort to keep Delaware litter-free, the Department of Transportation announced Feb. 1. Last year’s collections, as well as other cleanup efforts, were performed by the department’s maintenance and operations employees, the Adopt-a-Highway and Sponsor-a-Highway programs, the Work-a-Day Earn-a-Pay Program and the Department of Correction’s inmate efforts. Along with the bags of refuse, 6,000 tires, 3,500 signs and 250 appliances were removed from the streets of Delaware, according to the department.
