Delaware State University plans to consider capacity improvements for future graduation ceremonies after a venue change provided limited seating for attendees of last Saturday’s commencement. DSU’s undergraduate commencement ceremony was originally scheduled to be held at Alumni Stadium, but due to forecasted thunderstorms, the graduation was moved to Memorial Hall. Ticketholders were permitted into Memorial Hall on a first-come, first-served basis.
- My daughter graduated this past weekend from DSU, and the information given in the article and what actually happened or what people were told are two different things. Due to the inclement weather, each family was supposed to have four people allowed in the gym, while the rest were supposed to go to overflow areas. Instead, as long as you showed your ticket, you were allowed in the gym. DSU dropped the ball. Regrets cannot make up for those of us who had to witness our kids walk to receive their degree on a TV screen in a room where they were not prepared! My daughter will not remember this as a joyous occasion. She will remember this event with anger. — Cheryl Wallach Browning
Millsboro hopes to increase voters in next election
In the 2021 election, there were 39 votes in a town whose population was 4,533 based on 2020 U.S. census data. But it has since grown.
- If Millsboro wants more participation in their elections, they need to do a better job informing residents that an election is even occurring. Where we moved from, I received a paper facsimile ballot for every election weeks before the date. I have been here in Delaware going on four years and have never received any advance notice. — J.J.
