Speak Up: Delaware lawmaker scrutinizing lack of movement on minority-backed bills

Posted

Changes could be possible for Delaware’s legislative process following a Republican lawmaker’s claim that the majority of minority-sponsored bills are being held back.

  • Key point here is they are not following their own rules. It states, “Once a sponsor asks for their bill to be addressed in committee, House rules say that must occur within 12 legislative days from the request.” There is no mention of party affiliation as a requirement to hear the proposed bill with the assigned committee. — Rob Arlett
  • I mean, that’s how it works in any legislative body. Sucks, yeah, but maybe try jettisoning the loony wing of your party, and you’d have a shot of getting back in the majority? This is just whining, pure and simple. — Mike Matthews
  • Can’t wait for midterm elections. The country is so screwed right now. — Peter Pollack
  • Look, we get why Dems hate following rules they expect others to follow, but this seems pretty simple. — Marilyn M. Krzus
  • Dems are still enslaving people. Keeping them dependent on the government with handouts. Just a bunch of free money for votes on the backs of working people. That is modern-day slavery. — Jackie Veal Cates
