Speak Up: Delaware House Republicans pitch $100 tax rebate proposal

Posted

House Republicans recently unveiled a $100 million rebate proposal that they say would benefit every man, woman and child in Delaware. In lieu of a tax reduction, every legal resident of Delaware, regardless of age or income, would receive $100 under the plan, designed to help Delawareans deal with rising fuel costs and the overall spike in inflation.

  • What a concept! It would take Republicans to actually consider giving back to the people their money, which was collected in good faith but is now deemed a surplus. Usually, the “other folks” find a way to earmark any surplus to fund any current or future-planned and hoped-for “giveaway” program. On commenting on the high prices for gasoline and the burden it puts on working, middle-class people, the current transportation secretary suggested that we all should buy an electric vehicle. Maybe some of this rebate money can go towards the high costs of those vehicles. — Dennis Kirkwood
  • Oh, wow. One tank of gas. Gee, so considerate. — Richard Damron
  • Used to be two tanks of gas on Jan. 5, 2021, but you know, that thing. — Jon Walczak
  • I don’t follow your complaint here. Are you against getting your own tax money back? — Robert Paul
  • Because it should be more. — Richard Damron
  • I’m all for more of my own tax money being returned to me! Maybe the Democrats will introduce a counter bill to make the amount larger? — Robert Paul
  • Why would you give it back to everybody? Give it back to those who gave it to you! If you don’t pay taxes, you shouldn’t get a dollar. — Kathi Adronene
  • Socialism! — Kevin K.C. VanBuskirk
  • How is getting your own money back “socialism”? — Robert Paul
  • I’ll take $100 over nothing. — Dennis Orlando Jr.
  • Wow, a hundred bucks. Hope they know that’s not jack nowadays! — Rusty Larimore
  • Thank you, Kevin Hensley, and the other Republicans who put this bill forth. — Andrew Aron
  • Use it to replace aging schools. — Elijah Young
