Speak Up: ChristianaCare employees rally against vaccine mandate, continued
Posted
At least 350 people gathered outside the west entrance of ChristianaCare’s Christiana Hospital on Saturday to protest a recent vaccine mandate for employees of the health care provider. A statement released Saturday morning from ChristianaCare said it did not make the decision to mandate the vaccine lightly but that it is based on the science and facts about the vaccine. ChristianaCare attributes its policy to the spread of new variants.
Maybe you should familiarize yourself with the staffing shortages already facing the hospitals prior to this. You may also recognize that the rally is not only about the vaccine but rather the power of choice on personal health being taken away. Nurses (and all medical professionals alike) are taught about patient rights, so why do those same rights no longer apply to them? I know many nurses who are vaccinated who still believe that this is wrong because it should be a personal choice, not mandated by any employer. I also know many nurses who are not vaccinated for their own personal reasons. You and every other individual who is not willing to stand with the health care workers now should really step back and evaluate what this is really about. — Nichole Gallaher-Whitby
I mean, if they get fired for noncompliance and not getting the vaccine, they can just collect unemployment, and the health care industry will suffer even harder than it is. — Melissa Sue
Guess they shouldn’t be in the “health care” business. — Kevin K.C. VanBuskirk
We need to get control of the virus and get back to feeling safe to live again. We need to work together, and that includes wearing a mask if your employer is asking one and all to do this. Grow up, folks. Let’s all get on the same page and beat this killer. — Sallie Rolph
