Homeless moving into Georgetown pallet village
Eunice Carter and her mother, Margaret Carter, planned to get a good night’s sleep Jan. 30 — with both eyes closed. That was moving day for mother and daughter, among the first homeless individuals to occupy cabins in the Springboard Collaborative Pallet Shelter Village in Georgetown. Both had been living in a wooded area of town coined “tent city” for about a year. “Back in the tent city, you’re lucky to get any sleep, with all that riffraff, arguing and fighting,” Eunice said. “Here, we don’t have to worry about your leaving your stuff here. You don’t have to worry about it being stolen. You don’t have to worry about the riffraff.”
