Speak Up: Century of memories at Frederick Douglass School’s birthday bash

Posted

Frederick Douglass Elementary School, the Seaford School District and their neighbors recently celebrated a learning hub special to many in the segregation and desegregation eras. Remembrances and tributes were the order of the day at the 100th-birthday bash for Frederick Douglass School, among the facilities rebuilt by philanthropist Pierre S. du Pont in the 1920s.

  • I attended 2001-02. I was only in fourth grade. It always left a special mark on my heart, which is saying a lot considering I attended 12 schools during my grade school years. It was not star-studded but rather showed age even then, but it was a year that sowed a hope in the life ahead. To this day, into my own family. Thanks for all the people who have or have had a hand in making that place a sanctuary to some and a place of memorable experiences guaranteed. — Patrick Kelly
