The Delaware State Police recently hosted the Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race, its largest single fundraiser, to assist the youth camp in Sussex County. The event returned to Georgetown Speedway, its home for the first race in 1951. Are you or the children in your life Camp Barnes kids? What is your favorite memory of the camp?
- Everything. I loved the experience of Camp Barnes when I was young, meeting new people my age. We had a meeting at the flag every morning, swam after breakfast and, later in the day, canoed, did activities, and every night, we sat around the campfire, talking and singing. I met so many people and still keep in touch with a couple. I think every child should be able to experience Camp Barnes. — Mary Moo
Responses to cooking show question
A Sussex County pastry chef is pitting his skills against his peers on a national TV show this season. Dru Tevis celebrated his appearance on Food Network’s “Holiday Baking Championship” by hosting a live watch party and serving the dessert he created in the first episode. Have you ever considered auditioning for a cooking competition? What recipe would you make?
- I would make blackened muskrat from the swamps of Smyrna. — Charlie Harper
- I would audition, but I hate the stupid twists they always throw in there. Just let me make the food without having to worry about some random ingredient getting thrown at me. — Matthew Fisher
- I used to watch Food Network all the time. Now, I hardly ever watch because it has become nothing but competition shows. — Bob Hice
