SPEAK UP: Bill to legalize marijuana filed

Posted

Legislation filed last week would allow adults to use cannabis recreationally in the First State, following the 2011 creation of a medical marijuana program and the 2015 passage of a bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of cannabis. House Bill 150 would let individuals age 21 and older buy up to 1 ounce of marijuana from licensed retail stores. The legislation would establish a 15% tax, though retailers would otherwise be able to set their own prices.

  • That smell, ugh. Don’t know how anyone can stand it. — Wendy Lynn
  • I’ve smelled way worse in my life than someone smoking pot. — Richard Benson
  • I’m not looking forward at all to when pot is legal everywhere. Yeah, I suppose you have the right to do whatever you want, including smoke pot, but I have the right to not endure a near-anaphylactic reaction every time I breathe it in (including getting the smell off someone who recently smoked). — Danni St. Cyr
  • People smoke it openly now. So what do you do when you pass someone that has smoked? I smell it whenever I go out, and that’s many different locations. — Jennifer Lynn
  • The “war on drugs” is rooted in racism. The 13th Amendment made it possible. Make them illegal, get drugs into poor Black communities and fill the for-profit prison system. It’s modern-day slavery. Legalize everything and save trillions, which could go to a more ethical option. In the ’80s, we had a “crack epidemic,” and now that white suburbia has an opiate “problem,” it’s a “crisis.” — Chandler Robin Lee Stegner
  • It might as well be legal, since everyone in my apartment seems to smoke it. The hallways are a haze of stinky pot smoke. — Ronnie Ponde
  • Just enjoy your contact buzz. — Howard Gaines III
  • It is not a joke. It is dangerous to some of us, and we have enough deadbeats and less-than-normal people in Delaware. — Deborah Barnes
  • Legalize it already. — Janet Cooney
  • FYI, pot may be legal in the state but not federally. A word to the wise: Getting a medical marijuana card or indulging makes one ineligible to pass a background check for a firearm, and the liberals would love that. — Bob Hice
  • I’ll gladly take a joint over a gun. Too many guns around anyway. — Charlie Harper
  • Correct! It must be legalized at the federal level, which people don’t get. — Sharon Momot Annis
  • That’s fine. I don’t need a firearm. — Julie Penny-Stowell
  • That’s great. The libs want to keep people high then they don’t know what’s being done to them. — Bob Hice
