Legislation filed last week would allow adults to use cannabis recreationally in the First State, following the 2011 creation of a medical marijuana program and the 2015 passage of a bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of cannabis. House Bill 150 would let individuals age 21 and older buy up to 1 ounce of marijuana from licensed retail stores. The legislation would establish a 15% tax, though retailers would otherwise be able to set their own prices.
• So it’s HB 110 with lipstick? — Jay Linagon
• My concern with legalized marijuana is how it will affect gun owners. — Kim Patterson Luton
• After what they did in the medical bill, that is a valid concern. This is why we need to be involved. They put these feel-good bills in that are mucked up with tyranny that is left out of the media, and your average person never even reads past the headlines. I have many concerns with this bill, many of the same exact ones I did with HB 110. — Jay Linagon
• Yes. To not do so is costing us money. This bill doesn’t go far enough to open it up to private growers, but it is a good first step. — Michael McKain
• The money is being irresponsibly funded to the general fund instead of earmarked for education, like Colorado did. Everyone wants legalization, but this is monopoly to Big Business. — Beth Gallagher
• Money from the general fund goes towards education in this state, along with other vital state services. I’d rather see that money coming in than not, even though I don’t like how the medical side of it has led to an overpriced monopoly. — Michael McKain
• It’s going into the state coffers. Good enough. — Charlie Harper
