President Joe Biden told House Democrats on last week he’s “not married” to an absolute number on his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 rescue plan, but Congress needs to “act fast” on relief for the pandemic and the economic crisis. Biden also said he doesn’t want to budge from his proposed $1,400 in direct payments to Americans. “Look, we got a lot of people hurting in our country today,” Biden said. “We need to act. We need to act fast. We need to restore the soul of the country.”

• You’re blind to what’s going on now, like being locked down, fences around D.C., National Guard till? Losing your freedom of speech, etc. — Bob Hice
• Trump put a fence around the White House, and no one lost their freedom of speech. He’s free to say whatever he wants, and certain platforms are free to decide that they don’t want to promote it. — John Anderson
• Ironic that the GOP is so concerned about the deficit and that the idea of poor people feeding themselves to them is alarming, yet the deficit was the least of their concern when they pushed through that massive tax cut for the wealthy and big businesses. I do think that the funds should remain $1,400 and agree that it should be targeted. I received it the last time, to my surprise. Since I really don’t need it, I promptly gave it away, splitting it with others who I know needed it. So targeting who gets it is a good idea; otherwise, it’ll go to people that really don’t need it, resulting in perhaps depriving some that do. — Michael Jones
