Speak Up: Beebe, TidalHealth report no staffing disruption after vaccine mandate

Posted

There has been no negative impact on staffing at two Downstate hospital systems after COVID-19 vaccines were federally mandated for caregivers, while ChristianaCare, based in Newark, has felt minimal effect, despite the loss of about 150 employees.

  • Really? But that was why we were muzzled and the National Guard was called up. — Lezlie Eustis
  • Greed and money are driving the lack of quality of care in the hospitals. I challenge the Delaware State News to make a public call to former patients after discharge to talk about their recent inpatient experience regarding staffing issues. Hospitals won't tell the truth about the staffing issues because they're still getting COVID money. Ask patients about staffing issues such as how there was only one nurse for an entire floor every day for a weeklong stay. I don't consider that quality care. When a patient waits three hours after calling for the nurse. By the time the nurse gets there, there's no need for a trip to the bathroom. Now the one nurse has to change the bedding and gown. When she or he is called away to another patient for care, then the spouse cares for the patient by putting clean sheets on the bed and changing the soiled clothing. Ask a patient about the quality of care when that patient couldn't get water to drink each day, every day. There are more examples of staffing issues in hospitals that they don't want to be made public. DSN, you will only find truth this way and not from the hospital administrators. Even when patients call the patient advocate, they have a scripted response to shut patients up. It's all about the money. There is no longer a desire to provide quality care to patients, none whatsoever! — Diane Ivey
  • My mother just had the same experience. There just was just not enough staff to take care of her needs. The weekends were awful with fill-in staff who just did not know the patients or their needs. — Jody Steele Williams
  • The hospitals had no disruption, but patient care has suffered. — David Szelestei
  • No negative impact, unless you’re one of the 150 that lost their jobs! What an insensitive statement! — Kevin McCarthy
  • Is this saying the 150 were of no importance?? Disgusting way to treat people when they hung in there through the pandemic. — Jean Sullivan Melvin
