Speak Up: Answer to vets home question

Posted

The Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs has received recommendations from an assessment study for improvements to the Delaware Veterans Home, a 144-bed nursing facility in Milford. Among the suggestions are staff satisfaction efforts, hiring a compliance officer and beefing up minority representation on the state’s veteran commission. What improvements are important to you and your family?

  • Of course, adding more beds and properly staffing the facility to manage the new patients. There are other things to do for vets in Delaware that would benefit us: Eliminate property taxes for veterans with combat valor medals, Purple Hearts and that are 100% permanently and totally disabled. Convert what’s remaining of the Blue Hen Corporate Center to a Veterans Affairs facility, with everything except emergency services. Reduce vehicle tax to 2% for all veterans that have retired with honorable conditions (regular or medical) or who have combat valor medals and/or Purple Hearts. — Matthew Fisher
