The company that did the reassessments was incompetent. First, it was published that the owner of a house could make an appointment to be present when the property was assessed. I made an appointment by phone. At no time did an assessor appear at my home. Plus, there were no information pamphlets left to indicate that someone was here.
Then, I received in the mail paperwork showing the various features of my house, etc. It was entirely inaccurate. I corrected every item on the list and returned it. I also called to check why there was no person who came to my house, even though I had scheduled to be home. I was referred to the woman who was the director for Dover. I could only get an answering machine, and she never returned my call.
When I received my assessment, I submitted three previous assessments and had some success making minor changes. I was told that the assessment was based on what houses sold for in my development.
If they are basing it on that, why is the individual assessment even necessary? They could just look up the prices of houses sold and establish it via that. Apparently, they didn’t think it was necessary to send an appraiser to my house because one never appeared. Then, they guessed at the features of my house and got them all wrong.
