Shaffer: Buckson school-staffing bill should be supported

Posted

In response to the Opinion by Sen. Eric Buckson, R-Camden, all good points (“Senate Bill 52 would aid educational staffing”).

With regard to filling long-term parental (or illness) leave positions with highly qualified retired teachers, my belief is that they should be compensated at the same daily rate they received prior to retirement. If it is, say, two to three weeks or longer, they are doing much the same workload as full-time teachers — preparing, managing, grading and more. If it’s a couple months, no-brainer.

I do not see that scenario of the long-term retiree pay addressed in Title 14, Chapter 13, Section 1326. That might help.
