SMYRNA — The Run/Walk for Farmers 5K takes place May 14 and is being facilitated at the Boondocks Restaurant, 825 Lighthouse Road in Smyrna.
Organizers describe this as a family-friendly event featuring face painting, corn hole, a tractor display and other farming-related exhibits.
The goal of the event is to generate awareness and funds that will assist the agricultural community in holding onto its farmland by preventing unregulated and industrial-scale solar development. An additional goal is to preserve vital wetland habitat for Delaware’s various waterfowl and other wildlife.
The event begins at 11 a.m., with registry beginning at 10 a.m. Online registration is available at raceentry.com. There is a $25 registration fee. Registry on the day of the event will be $30. Participation is free for children 10 and under.
Farm and seashore-related prizes will be awarded to top contestants. For more information, call 302-670-3080.
