Kaelyn Press and Madison Price each homered as the Smyrna High softball team defeated Middletown High on Wednesday afternoon, 7-1, in a nonconference battle.

Madison Drummond had two RBIs to secure the lead in the fourth. Drummond and Tayler John each doubled for the Eagles (5-0).

Jessica Anderson recorded the win on the mound with a complete game.

Caesar Rodney 6, Sussex Central 2: Rosa’Lynn Burton went 3-for-3, Alyssa Ball went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to lift the Riders in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division contest.

Alexxys Harris went 2-for-2 with one RBI for CR (6-1). Sussex Central was led by Kailee Abbott who was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Chelsie Ward who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Boys’ lacrosse

Caesar Rodney 15, Smyrna 2: Josh Cosden had three goals and the Riders kept Smyrna scoreless in the first three quarters to earn a Henlopen North victory.

Demetrius Stevenson, Luke Rankin and Jacob Copio netted two goals apiece while Nolan Aloe, Jared Wagenhoffer and Jacob Pangle added one each. Rankin led CR with three assists.

Brian Davis provided both goals for Smyrna.

Lake Forest 15, Indian River 13: Ben Moore scored six goals, Austin Aguilar had five and Carter Kenton scored three.

Christian Chilton made seven saves for the Spartans. Lake’s other goal was by Dawaunta Parker.

Polytech 14, Sussex Central 4: Griffin Ott had four goals, Jake Davis had three and Patrick O’Brien scored twice in the Panthers’ Henlopen North win.

Thomas Gilmore, Josh Davis, Zachary Mahue and Jose’ Santos each netted a single goal for Polytech.

Sussex Tech 17, Dover 13: Matthew Tull’s five goals paced the Ravens to a Henlopen North win and Jason Whaley chipped in three goals.

William Niebrzydowski led Dover with five goals and Connor Ashoka Garrett added four.

Cape Henlopen 16, St. Mark’s 3: Jacob Brown netted five goals for the Vikings and Hank Coveleski scored twice in a nonconference victory.

Delmar 4, Milford 2: Masyn Lilly’s hat trick was enough as the Wildcats held off Milford in a Henlopen South battle.

Nate Vincent also scored for Delmar while Mark Henderson had both goals for Milford.

Baseball

Caesar Rodney 7, Sussex Central 6: Tommy Gallucci, Quintin Ivy and Matt Atkinson each were 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the Henlopen North win for the Riders.

Tom Pomatto and Blake Donovan each added a pair of hits. Carlton Voak earned the win in relief of Noah DeAtley.

D.J. Doherty and Jacob Swift were each 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Golden Knight’s offense. Chris Harrison and Treyvell Toppin both added two hits.

Men’s lacrosse

Wesley 11, Marymount 9: The Wolverines knew that Wednesday night would be the last time the nine-member senior class would suit up in their careers. The emotion of the night seemed to fuel the Wolverines as they earned a victory over Capital Athletic Conference rival Marymount.

The seniors carried the team to the victory, with Cody Ireland making 12 saves with a ground ball and a caused turnover while Sam Seibert led the scoring with four goals and two assists. Nate Gemmato went for three goals and three assists while senior Jack Redefer scored twice. Hunter Coho added a goal and an assist while John Chenault scored for the Wolverines as well. Nolan Vesey earned a team-high five caused turnovers while Joe Fingles scooped a squad-best four ground balls.

College baseball

Navy 16, Delaware State 4: Navy scored five runs in the first two innings and never looked back in a win over Delaware State at Soldier Field.

Robert Currie and Sean Trent had three hits and three RBI each to lead the Midshipmen’s 17 hit attack. Six Navy hitters had at least two runs batted in, while five players collected two-or-more hits,

Cameron Onderko had two hits and two RBI for Delaware State.

Trent hit a two-run homer to highlight Navy’s three-run first inning, while Currie doubled in two second inning runs to give the Mids a 5-0 lead.

Navy stretched its lead to 8-0 on Conner Deneen’s two-run blast in the fourth inning.

DSU trailed 10-0 before plating two fifth inning runs. Kwestin Smith singled in the Hornets’ first run and the second crossed the plate on a fielder’s groundout by Sam Barber. The Hornets pulled to within 10-4 on a two-run single by Onderko in the sixth.

The Midshipmen tallied six unanswered runs in the last three innings to close out the scoring.

St. Mary’s 8, Wesley 4: The Wolverines saw their nine-game winning streak snapped.

Eric Speidel went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI but was the only Wolverine with multiple hits. KeAndre Jones had three walks and a pair of stolen bases while Joe Hummel went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored. Cody Simet went 4.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs before being relieved by Andrew Weaver, who tossed 4.2 innings allowing just one run on four hits to keep Wesley in contention.

College softball

Wesley swept by No. 6 Salisbury: The Wolverines ran into one of the nation’s best and were swept by Capital Athletic Conference rival No. 6 Salisbury. The Wolverines fell 6-0 in game one and then 14-0 in game two.

Wesley recorded four hits in each of the two games. Samantha Burns and Nina Marcano each recorded one hit in each game. Morgan Seymour, Lauren Hoffman, Ashley Royer, and Devin Mackay all finished with one hit apiece on the day. Marcano also finished with a pair of stolen bases.

Lindsay Siok threw all seven innings in game one, holding one of the nation’s best offenses to just six runs on 10 hits. The junior attempted to start game two and go the distance but was pulled in the first inning. Sydney Botsch tossed the final 4.2 innings.

The Wolverines move to 12-14 on the season with a 5-7 mark in conference play.
