Tyler Cauthren scored the winning run on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning as Lake Forest High edged Dickinson, 7-6, in a nonconference baseball game on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans (4-3) scored the last three runs of the contest, tying the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cauthren scored on an overthrow while stealing third in the eighth.

Dylan Martin had four of Lake’s 10 hits while driving in two runs. Brandon Cashdan pitched the last three innings to pick up the victory.

Milford 8, Indian River 2: Tom Saxon had three hits, three RBI and three runs scored to pace the Buccaneers to the Henlopen Conference win.

Winning pitcher Cole Davis struck out five in five innings with Danny Burgos adding two hits and an RBI. Milford took the lead for good with a three-run first.

Eddie Hogan had two hits while Andrew White and Ryan Engh both added RBI for IR.

Cape Henlopen 5, Seaford 3: The Vikings scored twice in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie in the Henlopen contest.

Cape’s Kai Vitella was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Jayson Wiberg had a triple and two RBI while Will Jarrell pitched four innings in relief to earn the win.

Justin Gray had three hits, including a double, with an RBI for the Blue Jays.

Delmar 9, Laurel 0: Nate Smith pitched a complete-game two-hitter to earn the shutout for the Wildcats.

Timothy Ward had a pair of doubles for Delmar, which finished with 12 hits.

Lacrosse

GIRLS, Sussex Tech 13, Archmere 9: The Ravens jumped out to a 9-2 halftime advantage before holding off the Auks.

Madison Bada had four goals while Hannah Collins and Torrie Huk had three goals apiece for Sussex Tech. Emma Spellman added two goals and two assists, Victoria Lockwood scored a goal and Heather Windels made seven saves.

Polytech 20, Concord 6: Jamie Trabaudo had six goals with Allie McKay (2 assists) adding five for the unbeaten Panthers (6-0).

Polytech, which led 15-3 at halftime, also got three goals from Maddie McKay (1 assist) and two from Rebecca Shirey. The Panthers outshot the Raiders, 33-11.

Smyrna 19, Glasgow 1: Bailey Grey, Kaila Hindt, Kimberly Kowalick (1 assist), Shabnam Noroozi-Pooya, Madeline Price, Allison Wheatley, Sierra Duman and Elicie Edmond all scored two goals to lead the Eagles.

Smyrna, which led 11-1 at halftime, outshot the Dragons 46-4.

Newark 10, St. Thomas More 7: Joanna Petrosky netted five goals to pace the Ravens in the loss.

Virginia McMahon and Sophia Stafford also scored for St. Thomas More, which outscored the Yellowjackets, 5-4, in the second half.

BOYS, Milford 19, Newark 3: Mathew Viramontes tallied seven goals and an assist as the Buccaneers improved to 7-0.

The game was played at Wesley College’s Miller Stadium as part of the Dave Reynolds Lacrosse Festival. The event continues with three high school and two college games today.

Mark Henderson (1 assist) added four goals for Milford with Dallas Rhodes scoring three. Ring Lardner and Zachary Heesh (1 assist) both scored twice for the Bucs, who led 15-1 at halftime.

Cape Henlopen 22, Smyrna 1: Matthew Lally, Kyle Orton and Erik-Stephane Stancofski netted three goals apiece as the Vikings (6-2) won their fifth game in a row.

Brent Reed, Hank Coveleski, Alexander Marshall and Ethan Ghabra all scored twice for Cape, which led 16-1 at halftime. The Vikings outshot the Eagles, 47-13.

Shane Helm made 11 saves for Smyrna, which got a goal from Luke Rusillo.

Softball

Caesar Rodney 7, St. Mark’s 1: Janaya Harris homered and the Riders scored six runs over the last three innings to post the nonconference win.

Alyssa Ball threw a three-hitter to earn the victory while CR finished with 11 hits.

Cape Henlopen 19, Seaford 1: The Vikings scored seven runs in the first inning and nine more in the third in earning the Henlopen Conference victory.

Bryanna Bailey went 3-for-3 while winning pitcher Riley Shields and Raegan Jackson both contributed two hits to the Vikings’ total of 15 hits in the contest.

Lake Forest 28, Dickinson 0: Kat Betts and Mya Maddox combined to pitch the five-inning shutout for the Spartans.

Kayla Thompson had a double for Lake Forest.

Salisbury Christian, Md. 6, St. Thomas More 1: Freshman pitcher Kara Scarangella had 12 strikeouts for the Ravens in the loss.

 Girls’ soccer

Lake Forest 9, Sussex Central 0: Hannah Fox scored three goals to spark the Spartans to the victory.

Lauren Sharp (2 assists) added two goals with Alyssa Santore, Rachel Harrell (2 assists), Jocelyn Hughes and Daia Daniels all scoring one. Lake outshot the Golden Knights, 17-2.

Smyrna 8, Hodgson 0: Samantha Grim, Nnennaya Okorie aand Stacey Staley (2 assists) netted two goals apiece as the Eagles improved to 6-1.

Allison Hubert (2 assists) also scored a goal while goalies Cassidy Cook and Emily Fardoulis combined for three saves in Smyrna’s fifth shutout of the season. The Eagles outshot Hodgson, 20-3.

Sussex Tech 1, St. Georges 0: Wuendy Cruz-Velasquez scored the game’s only goal in overtime to lift the Ravens.

Michelle Laz had an assist on the game-winner, which came in the 92nd minute, while Leslie Fazio made five saves. Sussex Tech held advantages of 16-7 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

Wilm. Christian 2, Cape Henlopen 0: The Warriors tallied a goal in each half in blanking the Vikings.

Cape goalie Olivia Baratto made nine saves as Wilmington Christian finished with advantages of 17-7 in shots and 2-0 in corner kicks.

Caravel 9, St. Thomas More 0: Goalie Erica Venezia made eight saves for the Ravens in their nonconference loss.

College baseball

Charleston 10, Delaware 2: The first-place Cougars (12-1 CAA, 26-8 overall) scored at least a run in each of the first five innings before taking the opener of the Colonial Athletic Association series.

With the Blue Hens (3-7, 14-13) trailing 3-0 in the second inning, Delaware senior Greg Olenski launched a towering two-run home run to left field to cut the Charleston lead to 3-2. Olenski was responsible for three of the seven UD hits in the game.

College lacrosse

WOMEN, Delaware 13, William & Mary 7: The Blue Hens (4-1, 11-5) secured a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament with the win on Friday.

Caitlin McCartney scored three goals as she moved into sixth place on the program’s all-time list with 150. The midfielder added five draw controls, three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Eight Hens tallied at least one point while junior Casey Lyons led the way with four points on two goals and two assists.
