On Sept. 10, I will vote for Collin O’Mara for governor in the Delaware primary election. I admire all the Democratic gubernatorial candidates, but we are very lucky to have one who is caring, honest, well-educated, highly intelligent and insightful — and who has proven to be a major asset in leadership roles in Delaware and in national organizations.
The best state leaders care about preserving beautiful open spaces, providing more trees and public parks (proven to enhance health and happiness), and offering the best education for each individual (he is the only candidate with children in public school). He is committed to ensuring public safety, fairness, justice, equal opportunity, quality health care and the well-being of every citizen.
Collin O’Mara understands the needs of working people, small- and large-business owners and families. He has clearly studied the most successful methods for dealing with problems such as poverty, addiction, gun violence and homelessness. He also understands the need to reform campaign finance rules and to stop the undemocratic influence of corporate lobbyists (from petrochemical industries) who focus only on perpetuating power and profit, ignoring serious health and environmental consequences, such as PFOS, lead and mercury, as well as carbon dioxide and methane, which are warming the planet and causing deadly climate crises. As the lowest-lying state, we face sea level rise, as well as saltwater intrusion, which threaten to ruin agriculture, the economy and drinking water. Collin has the knowledge, experience and dedication to do what is needed for a more stable climate, new clean energy jobs and a better future for all Delawareans.
