In August 2024, Delaware’s Clean Slate Act was put into effect, allowing over 290,000 eligible offenders to have their records expunged automatically, no matter how much money is owed.
It has been brought to my attention that less than 1% of offenders have had their records expunged, and the state is currently working on cases from 1940. I’m sorry, but anyone with an adult record from 1940 does not need their record expunged for employment purposes. They are focusing on people that are not in dire need of this service, and at the rate they are going, everyone waiting for the Clean Slate Act will have passed away or have no need to have their record expunged for employment.
Let’s call this out and get Delaware on the ball for this second chance we were promised. Thank you.
